Bass-baritone William Dopp has performed a wide range of repertoire, in genres from baroque to contemporary classical music and is a recent graduate of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. While there, he performed the roles of Louis XVI in The Ghosts of Versailles , Melisso in Alcina, Collatinus in The Rape of Lucretia, Littore in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Carl Olsen in Street Scene, Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, as well as Don Alfonso and Bartolo in scenes from Così fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro and Fasolt in scenes from Das Rheingold.

 

This summer, Dopp will make his debut with The Florentine Opera in Milwaukee, WI, where he will sing the role of Commentator in Derrick Wang's opera Scalia/Ginsburg, and will also be performing for several recitals and events. In the fall, Dopp will make his debut with Florida Grand Opera in Miami, Florida, where he will be a resident studio artist.

Last summer, Dopp made his debut with Opera in the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, Arkansas as an emerging artist. While at OIO, he performed the roles of Thomas Putnam and Reverend Hale in Robert Ward’s The Crucible, along with Baron Douphol in Verdi’s La Traviata. In the summer of 2023, Dopp had the privilege of performing the role of Vodnìk in Rusalka with LAH-SOW in Houston, TX, under the direction of Luke Housner. 

 

On international stages, William has performed the title role of Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, as well as Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola with FIO Italia (Festival of International Opera) in Urbania, Italy. He was also a member of the opera studio for the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in the summer of 2019 in Graz, Austria. 

 

On the concert stage, William has been featured as the bass soloist in Bach's BWV 243 Magnificat with Southeastern Louisiana University, as well as the bass soloist in the Houston Saengerbund's performance of Händel's Messiah

Dopp holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Southeastern Louisiana UniversityDopp is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana.
